School of Business of Uttara University organized an important seminar on “Students’ Thoughts on National Budget 2016-17” on 22 June 2016 Wednesday at the IQAC Seminar Hall at 3:00pm. Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, Dean, School of Business of Uttara University Chaired the program. Honorable State Minister of Labor & Employment of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mujibul Haque Chunnu graced the program as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Pro Vice Chancellor of Uttara University & Dr Toufic Ahmed Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BUBM) were present as Special Guests in the seminar. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Kazi Tareq Ullah, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration of SOB. In his speech, Honorable Minister said that the students of UU are lucky as they have got chance to get higher education at Uttara University. He praised the students for their valuable observations and suggestions on the National Budget 2016-17. He advised the students to be the good citizens of the country for the sustainable development of Bangladesh. In the occasion, Special Guest Dr Toufiq Ahmed Chowdhury said that before criticizing the budget we should have the idea of Perspective Plan of the country. An interesting debate was generated in the seminar on Market Economy and Government Control. Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr M Azizur Rahman explained the concept of budget in a lucid manner which was highly appreciated by the audience students. The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the increasing the number of tax payers of the country. Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Pro Vice Chancellor of Uttara University highlighted the sanction of more budgets in education sector of the country. In the seminar, the Dr Nazrul Islam emphasized the Tax Return issue raised by the students. It was opined in the seminar that the government can return a portion of the tax after the retirement of the tax payer to him/her which will induce the potential tax payers to pay tax and as a result the income from tax segment of the country will be increased substantially. Along with Professor Dr DNR Paul, Professor Dr ASM Shahabuddin, Dr Sharmina Afrin, Dr Zamanur Rahman more than 30 faculty members of School of Business attended the seminar. Registrar of Uttara University Mr Kazi Mohiuddin and deputy registrars and other officials of UU were also present in the program. Ten students of BBA program presented their thoughts on different aspects of the National Budget 2016-17. More than 50 students also attended the program.
